Swatch Bharat

We Indians outcasted ourselves so much that we are either just living zombies or on the streets making so much noise that nothing makes sense.

Swatch Bharat. Modi initiated a crazy marketing campaign and EVERONE got excited. Then . . . . . . . . .

Where are the toilets? Even some government offices are not having proper 'knowledge' of hygiene. Shouldn't the government initiated matters first to be reflected at it's own establishments?

This week my visit to Medchal Sub-Registrar Office, Telangana proved one more time that Swatch Bharat is a failure. Just wasted public money on marketing.

I took picture of the way to 'toilet'. There is one single toilet behind iron grilled barricade locked doors for both men and women. The key is with one private owned biz. I am not sure if the toilet is only for all the businesses in the building and they hold the key or if it's owned by one single biz. I went to a couple of ladies in different biz and asked for direction to ladies restroom. I was told there are none. Then my husband went asking around for a restroom and one gentleman gave him key saying it is for both men n women.

The toilet is well maintained though to my shock well kept secret.

My friends say India fails to implement many programs because of its size. Isn't it the reason why we have a huge administration system? It's high time Indians start demanding an office in every constituency where the local MLA/MP sits from morning to evening and does his/her job. Then at least ppl know who is 'elected' and whether that person is taking care of the constituency.

Readymade Korra Millet Pongal

I bought this ready mix with usual skepticism thinking of other similar products I tried from various home brands. My perception of these things was it will be smelly, tastes weird, salty, . . . end, I will go back to my usual cornflakes.

I followed the instructions except for pressure cooking. On stove top it took about 20 mnts on very low flame to cook to the creamy consistency of my liking.

I soaked for 10 mnts. Then on low flame cooked for 20 mnts. I kept adding warm water till the whole thing was creamy.

As the pongal was cooking, our kitchen filled with fantadtic aroma. I found myself salivating. It's been an year that I really salivated and wanted to eat. My doctor's kept encouraging me to try different foods to improve my health and appetite.

I added little salt and ghee as suggested on the pack. The simple plain looking ready to eat mix turned into a very tasty creamy pongal. Later I also felt that there is no need to add salt or ghee. I can have fresh curry or sambar or avial with this much to make it a full meal.

I bought it at Daaram outlet in Hyderabad. I recommend you to try it if it is available near you or online.

Mohun's Cornflakes

For the past 40 years, after tasting many Brand's I still love this for my breakfast!!

Way before I heard of "cereal", way before I knew something different on breakfast menu, as a little kid, I remember tasting cornflakes for the first time at home when my mom brought home Mohun's Cornflakes.

I just got out of bed after a month long chickenpix. I became very choosey of my food. Those days, alternative to idly, which is very healthy and eafily digestible, was bread and milk. After a couple of days, I simply started puking at the sight of bread and smell of milk. I had to go back to idly. Looking at me, all sad, all morning, my mom went out searching for options. Those days no Google. So, she went to bakery and pachari shop. I don't know how she found but came home with Mohun's Cornflakes. I didn't catch the taste at first. But as I started feeling the crunchy texture with corn and milk taste, I really liked it.

After almost 40 years, I still vouch for this than any foreign brands. I find Mohun's Cornflakes thin, crispy, original textured. I found them same as hand pounded.

I will continue Mohun's Cornflakes as long as I can digest though I try different brands.

Veg restaurant Chennai Domestic Terminal

We expected a decent tiffin or meal. Meal was not ready. Ended up with usual pongal, idiyappam, dosa n idly. I am yet to understand "contemporary". A few square plates, no-tissues, black uniformed waiters, dark walls etc . . . My observation is yet to come to conclusion.

Pongal, tasted like my daughter's once baby food. Idiyappam really had no taste. Dosa was bland. Idly - cold. Total waste of money. My return was not even 30%.

Filter coffee is my only fave here.

I will not recommended unless you are about to die.

JK Paper

https://www.jkpaper.com/

Many a times I happen to see big MNCs promising on marketing campaigns. This is one quite market player promising a global change.

I recommend every Indian company or individual to buy their paper. I have not come across any other company boldly announcing their commitment.

Poppy Pops

I am quite impressed with this cosy foodlet in Jurong Gateway. Can access from food court via escalator. They serve usual latte,  hot chocolate etc and also tea like English breakfast, Earl grey etc. The food menu looked good but we went in-between time.

I liked the staff, attitude, ambience. Must check out for its rooftop location. Rear view.

Open till 9 pm.

Amy's Vegetable Pot Pie

I got this from NTIC Finest, JCube, Singapore. Not labeled as "Suitable for Vegetarians ". Ingredient list doesn't show meat of any kind. No international logo indicating vegetarian or vegan on package.

However, for Vegetarians who can tahan products made in environment where meat is handled, I recommend. If you can get this, try.

I really liked the flavour. Not enough for a 'meal'. But enough for quick or late night or brunch or supper. Microwave not good. Oven good. Toaster don't know. I liked it with a dollop of butter on top before into oven.
